Frequently asked questions
How do I use the park and ride?
There are marked family and disabled parking spaces with wider bays, near the terminal buildings.
Find a car parking space and park your car or cycle free of charge (a cycle rack is behind the building at London Road and cycle lockers can be found beside the terminal building at Martlesham). Tickets can be purchased from your driver, if you need to top up your Smartcard please contact the supervisor's office.
The terminal building houses a heated waiting area, information and toilets/baby change facilities. The site and buses are fully accessible.
What if I return late or apart from a group?
For journeys after 1900, other bus services operate close to both sites. Park & Ride tickets may not be valid on these servcies so normal bus fares will apply. For more information visit our timetables section.
Please note that the car park exits at both the sites are open 24 hours a day.
Are the buses fully accessible?
All buses used as standard on Ipswich Park and Ride services are built to the latest super-low floor standards and to the requirements of disability discrimination legislation. This means they all feature step-free entrances that can be lowered to kerb height, fold out ramps, dedicated spaces for wheelchairs and priority seating for the mobility impaired. Please note that the spaces are legally intended for wheelchair users - we are more than happy to carry pushchairs/buggies in this space but are required by law to give priority to wheelchairs.
Are wheelchairs and shopping trolleys available?
If you find getting around town a struggle, we have wheelchairs and shopping trolleys available for loan at the terminal buildings. Simply leave a £10 deposit with the staff at the help point (this will be returned when you bring the trolley or chair back) and enjoy a stress free day in Ipswich. The stop at the Old Cattle Market (outside Pals Bar) is also handy for the Ipswich Shopmobility centre. They have a range of facilities to help improve your experience of the town.
Can I use my concessionary fare pass on Park and Ride?
Holders of a Free Travel Bus Pass are able to buy a £1.50 return group ticket for the Park and Ride service for use after 9.30am on Monday to Fridays and at any time on Saturdays (and also anytime on Bank Holidays if service is operating).
Travel is available at other times by paying the standard fare for the journey.
Find out more information on the use of the concessionary bus pass on Ipswich Park & Ride.
Can I park my car or bicycle at the Park & Ride sites without using the bus?
No. You can only park your car or bicycle at one of the Park & Ride sites providing you then pay to use the bus service into Ipswich. Please note that you can walk to any of the Park & Ride sites and then pay to use the bus into Ipswich.
Can I park my car at the Park & Ride sites and then cycle into town?
No. Currently you cannot park your car at either of the Ipswich Park & Ride sites and then use your bicycle to reach your intended destination. A ticket for the Park & Ride bus must be purchased.
Are height barriers installed at any of the Park & Ride sites?
Yes. A height barrier is installed at the Martlesham entrance. This barrier measures 6 feet, 6 inches (2 metres) in height.
Can motorhomes use the service?
