Frequently asked questions

How do I use the park and ride?

There are marked family and disabled parking spaces with wider bays, near the terminal buildings.

Find a car parking space and park your car or cycle free of charge (cycle rack behind building at London Road, Cycle Lockers beside building at Bury Road and Martlesham). Tickets can be purchased from your driver, if you need to top up your Smartcard please contact the supervisor's office.

The terminal building houses a heated waiting area, information and toilets/baby change facilities. The site and buses are fully accessible.

What if I return late or apart from a group?

If you need to return to the site alone after going in to town as part of a group, a single ticket can be purchased from the bus driver.
Park and Ride users who need to be in town until after the last bus has left can still get back to the terminals at no extra charge by showing their Park and Ride ticket when using the following services:

Bury Road - Service 114 from the Old Cattle Market Bus Station.

London Road - Services 90, 93 and 95 from the Old Cattle Market Bus Station (Please inform driver upon boarding the bus).

Martlesham - Services 62A, 62B and 66 all of which operate close to the site.

Other services are available from Ipswich Buses for all 3 sites. Park & Ride tickets will not be valid on these services so normal bus fares will apply.

Please note that all car park exits at the 3 sites are open 24 hours a day.

Are the buses fully accessible?

All buses used as standard on Ipswich Park and Ride services are built to the latest super-low floor standards and to the requirements of disability discrimination legislation. This means they all feature step-free entrances that can be lowered to kerb height, fold out ramps, dedicated spaces for wheelchairs and priority seating for the mobility impaired. Please note that the spaces are legally intended for wheelchair users - we are more than happy to carry pushchairs/buggies in this space but are required by law to give priority to wheelchairs.

Are wheelchairs and shopping trolleys available?

If you find getting around town a struggle, we have wheelchairs and shopping trolleys available for loan at the terminal buildings. Simply leave a £10 deposit with the staff at the help point (this will be returned when you bring the trolley or chair back) and enjoy a stress free day in Ipswich. The stop at the Old Cattle Market (outside Pals Bar) is also handy for the Ipswich shopmobility centre. They have a range of facilities to help improve your experience of the town.

Can I use my concessionary fare pass on Park and Ride?

As with all other bus services in the county, the Suffolk Saver concessionary fare pass is valid on Ipswich Park and Ride. Simply show your pass to the driver on the bus. All we ask is that everyone travelling together on the ticket is a valid pass holder - we are not able to offer free travel to people who are not entitled to it.

Can I park my car or bicycle at the Park & Ride sites without using the bus?

No. You can only park your car or bicycle at one of the Park & Ride sites providing you then pay to use the bus service into Ipswich. Please note that you can walk to any of the Park & Ride sites and then pay to use the bus into Ipswich.

Can I park my car at the Park & Ride sites and then cycle into town?

No. Currently you cannot park your car at any of the Ipswich Park & Ride sites and then use your bicycle to reach your intended destination. A ticket for the Park & Ride bus must be purchased.
