£3 Bus Fare Cap Extended

Great news for bus passengers across England: the national £3 cap on single bus fares has been extended until at least March 2027, following an announcement by Chancellor Rachel Reeves during the Government’s Spending Review in June.

The fare cap, first introduced at £2 in January 2023 and raised to £3 in October 2024, was designed to keep bus travel affordable and encourage more people to use public transport. Without this cap, some fares could have risen dramatically.

The Government has pledged £150 million to maintain the cap and nearly £1 billion to improve bus services, including reliability and frequency. Additional investment will support local transport improvements and franchising pilots in selected areas.
