Families across Suffolk can make the most of the summer holidays for less, thanks to a new Government initiative offering free bus travel for children aged 5 to 15 throughout August.
From 1 to 31 August, children can travel free on participating local bus services across England, including many services in Suffolk. The scheme aims to help families with the cost of living while making it easier to get out and explore everything the county has to offer.
Whether you are planning a trip to the seaside in Felixstowe or Lowestoft, exploring Bury St Edmunds, visiting friends and family, or simply enjoying a day out in one of Suffolk’s towns and villages, travelling by bus is an affordable and sustainable way to get there.
There is no need to register or book in advance. Children simply need to ask the driver for a free Summer Bus Fare Offer ticket when boarding a participating service.
Participating operators in Suffolk currently include:
- BorderBus
- First Bus
- Ipswich Buses
- Stephensons
- Transport Made Simple

Some services are excluded from the offer, including most dedicated school services and a small number of long-distance routes. We recommend checking with your bus operator before travelling.
