Wilford Bridge Level Crossing Closure to Affect Bus Services 70/800
Major works by Network Rail are taking place at Wilford Bridge Level Crossing in Melton. To allow engineers to carry out essential railway improvements, the crossing will be fully closed from 20:00 on Friday 5 December 2025 until 18:00 on Saturday 6 December 2025. This is a complete closure for the entire period due to the scale and safety requirements of the work.
During the closure on Saturday, First Bus services 70 and 800 Park and Ride will be severely disrupted beyond Woodbridge. Both services will operate as normal up to Melton, before diverting via Station Road and Melton Chapel. Buses will not be able to serve any stops east of Melton.
To help maintain local connections, Suffolk County Council has funded a free shuttle bus for passengers travelling to and from the area east of Melton. This shuttle will run on a much reduced timetable due to the length of the diversion and will operate through Campsea Ashe, Tunstall, Rendlesham, Eyke, Sutton Heath and Rock Barracks.
Passengers making onward journeys may need to change buses at Woodbridge Turban Centre in order to continue their trip.
Travellers are advised to plan ahead, allow significantly longer for their journey, and check for the latest service information before travelling.
