New Bus Shelter Installed in Woodbridge

Passengers using bus services in Woodbridge are now benefiting from a new bus shelter installed outside the Deben Leisure Centre at Deben Pool.

The shelter was installed in November as part of a collaborative effort between Suffolk County Council, East Suffolk Council, and Woodbridge Town Council.

The project was originally championed by the late Cllr Kay Yule, who had long advocated for improved facilities for passengers using the stop. The new shelter now provides protection from the weather for those waiting for their bus.

To mark the occasion, a small gathering took place with members of the community, including words from Cllr Kay Yule’s son. The bench previously located at the stop will be relocated to Kingston Fields, where it will feature a plaque in her memory.

Following Cllr Yule’s passing, Cllr Ruth Leach continued the initiative and helped bring the project to completion.

Cllr Ruth Leach said:
“I am delighted that this bus shelter is finally in place – passengers have already appreciated the protection in poor weather and it stands as a symbol of what can be achieved by cross party collaboration between councillors and the cooperation between SCC, ESC and Woodbridge Town Council. It reminds us that we are stronger when we work together for our community!”

The shelter is already being well used by passengers, helping to improve the experience for those travelling by bus in the area.

Through the Suffolk County Council’s Passenger Transport team/Suffolkonboard continues to support improvements to public transport infrastructure across the county, helping make bus travel more comfortable and accessible for residents and visitors.
